Curious Words is a concept that presents the State Library as institution that propagates learning and progress through curiosity, play and experimentation. The hoarding design displays a word search game. With a set of keywords on either sides of the puzzle that describe the changes in the state Library. The keywords on the left represent some new features that are a part of vision 2020, while the keywords on the right describe the long standing history and tradition of the library.

The project was shortlisted by the stakeholders at the State Library.

My research suggested that users don’t view the state library like a traditional library a place that just holds books, but instead much more than that. This prompted me to conceptualise a design that is engaging and allows people to interact with, that shares the idea of informative design that is fun. Apart from being an interactive piece of design, the word search puzzle has numerous benefits. It’s an exercise for the brain, it challenges the way we think, assists in contextual learning cues while allowing the brain to develop pattern recognition. The simplicity of the hoarding will not only allow school excursions and parents to interact with the puzzle but also let tourists interact while learning about the library and new english words.

For the everyday users, the word search depicts the notion of finding something new each day in those small moments of time.
The zoomed out version of the hoarding allows people to see an arrow pointing towards the new Russel Street entrance with a smile; giving them a warm welcome.
